Why have the movements of gender equality and racial equality severed ties in this electoral race?
As an African American woman, I take great offense to the remarks made by Geraldine Ferraro. I have always seen myself as a woman first and then an African-American. At first I was amused that so many political ysts and pundits believe that African Americans are a collective unit with one ideology. How foolish and comical I thought! Now, it pains me greatly. Many have long forgotten that every social movement (historically) to liberate women has shared close ties to anti-racism movements and vice-a-versa. The abolitionists of the 19thcentury are a prime example of this. Why ask whether racism or ism is worse? Why separate the two?! Discrimination is discrimination! There is no difference! Socioeconomically, white women have more advantageous cirstances than African American men in the United States. This, however, is not about the statistics; this is about equality for ALL!
