Second opinion about Vets point of view?

I have a 5yr old toy Yorkie he is spry , great personality, loveable . Took him to the vet becuz of bad breath for 1 thing , 2 he had a runny nose (maybe from allergy) not diagnosed as such , 3 he had a hoarse cough, 4 seemed to me he was a bit warmer than usual. Mind u he has never been sick b-4. My vet tells me my baby has tonsilitis (Whoa!!!) Any1 ever heard of this, how common. She gave him an antibiotic but not sure she has diagnosed this correctly. He did have a temp not too high. This was a few months ago in the winter time . Now the symptoms are back , has any1 ever heard of tonsils being removed for a dog? I would appreciate any feedback on this. By the way his name is Jackpot and it sure fits him perfectly.
